I Peter 3 and I Timothy 2 - Make Up, Jewelry Forbidden?

JEWELRY

There are a couple Scriptures that are used to teach the forbiddance of Christian women wearing Jewelry. I Peter 3:1-6 and I Timothy 2:8-10. I will show here where it is not forbidding jewelry at all.
1 Pet 3:1-6
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
I Pet 3:3-4
This portion of scripture is not forbidding the outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold and of putting on of apparel.....

If they are saying the plaiting of hair, and the wearing of gold was forbidden here, then so is the putting on of apparel.

This portion of scripture is speaking of submission of the woman to an unbelieving husband....of how to win him to God......

....stating that NOT TO LET IT BE.....>>>>these things (plaiting of hair, wearing of gold, putting on of apparel) to try and win the husband,

but LET IT BE....these things....>>>>(the hidden man of the heart - the inside, and a meek and quiet spirit).
1 Pet 3:4-6
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Again....we are back to SUBMISSION......just as was started in the beginning of this portion of Scripture.

1 Pet 3:1-2
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

Has nothing to do with whether Sara wore jewelry or not. She submitted herself unto Abraham
THEN IN…..

1 Tim 2:8-10

8I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. (KJV)

It seems the women are ALLOWED to adorn themselves in apparel here, - modest apparel with shamefacedness and sobriety,

Not with broided hair, or gold or pearls, or costly array....

BUT (which becometh women professing godliness) WITH GOOD WORKS.

Basically, it's saying the same thing here. First, the men are to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and resentment. And the women should be the same way (in like manner also)...quiet and sensible in manner and clothing. (modesty, shamefacedness & sobriety) Christian women (those professing godliness) should be noticed for being kind and good (good works), not for the way they fix their hair or because of their jewels or fancy clothes. It's not forbidding these things.

And in 1 Tim 3:2 it describes the wife that a bishop should have.

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Here, good behaviour (2887) is the same greek word (kosmios)
used in I Tim 2:9 Modest (2887)

And in I Tim 3:2 Sober and in I Tim 2:9 sobriety......both meaning self-control or soundness of mind

It's basically about behavior here; not the forbiddance of fixing hair or wearing jewelry or fancy clothes.
